Indemnification
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless American Association of Teachers of Japanese and any affiliates and all of their employees, agents, directors, officers, volunteers, successors, and assigns, from and against any and all claims, proceedings, damages, injuries, liabilities, losses. Costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees and litigation expenses), relating to or arising from your use of the Sites, any violation by you of these Terms of Use, or any other matter for which you are responsible under law.
Applicable Law
The Sites are controlled by American Association of Teachers of Japanese, incorporated in the State of Colorado, from its offices in Boulder, Colorado, the United States of America. As such, U.S. federal laws and the laws of the State of Colorado will govern these Terms of Use, excluding any conflicts or rules of law that may direct the application of the law of another state. You hereby irrevocably and unconditionally consent to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the State of Colorado and/or the United States District Court for Denver, Colorado, for any litigation arising out of or relating to the use of Sites, waive any objection to the venue of any such litigation in the State of Colorado courts and agree not to plead or claim in any State of Colorado court that such litigation brought therein ahs been brought in an inconvenient forum.
Waiver and Severability
The failure of American Association of Teachers of Japanese to exercise or enforce any right or provision in these Terms of Use shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. If any provision of these Terms of Use is found by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, unlawful, void, or for any reason unenforceable, then that provision shall be deemed severable and enforced to the fullest extent of the law and shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any remaining provisions herein.

American Association of Teachers of Japanese reserves the right to make changes to these Terms of Use at any time by updating this page without notice to you. American Association of Teachers of Japanese (“AATJ” or “we”) takes many steps to protect your privacy when you visit the www.aatj.org website. In order to advance our advocacy and outreach programs, and to provide you with a better experience while you are on the website, we do allow some tracking to take place. How and when we do so is explained below.
Our Collection and Use of Information About You
Passively Collected Data
Like most websites, we may automatically receive and record information in our server logs from your browser when you visit www.aatj.org . The information that we collect with these automated methods may include your IP address, cookie information, browser type, system type, and the referring URL.
We use this type of information to measure and improve the performance of our site. On occasion we also access this type of information to investigate or maintain the stability and security of our site.
Voluntarily Submitted Data
Certain pages on the American Association of Teachers of Japanese site may invite you to share personally identifying information, such as your name, address, email address, or telephone number. Sharing that information will allow you to join our email list, register for programs, or participate in other similar online activities. We share limited information from the American Association of Teachers of Japanese membership list with the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (“ACTFL”) for the sole purpose of allowing AATJ members to register for the ACTFL Convention as part of a Convention Partner Organization. AATJ is an ACTFL Convention Partner Organization.
When We May Share Your Information With Other Organizations
When we give you an opportunity to voluntarily submit information about yourself, we may give you the option of indicating that you permit us to share that data with other organizations. We will not share your data with such parties unless you have indicated that you permit us to do so.
Our Email List
If you sign up for our email list, we may collect data by using an embedded image to track whether you open our email and by using a URL that enables us to identify that you have taken an action, such as clicking a link in an email or signing an online petition.
This allows us to build a more effective advocacy program, to inform you about the issues you care about most, and to make is simpler for you to sign petitions and fill out surveys.
Choice/Opt-out
Users who no longer wish to receive our electronic communications may opt out of receiving these communications by clicking the “Opt-out” or “Unsubscribe” options at the bottom of the email.
How We Work With Third-Party Vendors
To the extent that any vendor has access to personally identifiable data about you, by virtue of the fact that it participates in the operation of American Association of Teachers of Japanese site, we require that vendor through written agreements to keep that data confidential and to use it only for the purpose of carrying out the functions we have engaged it to perform (with a limited exception for certain aggregated data, as described immediately below).
